Alexei Popyrin has fallen just short of a semi-final berth at the Adelaide International, falling to Yoshihito Nishioka in a tight three setter.
Popyrin had embarked on a dream run at the event, qualifying for the main draw before taking out second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and winning through to the quarter-finals.
Nishioka, the world No.36, proved too big a challenge to overcome, despite two tiebreakers being split before he eventually ran away with he match.
