FLUSHING MEADOWS — What did the grand slam-winning former world No 1 who went on to attend Harvard Business School and become a mother of two do next?

Well, she returned to tennis, of course. “You only live once, so why not?” was the mantra declared by Caroline Wozniacki last week, and on Monday night the 2018 Australian Open champion marked her grand slam comeback with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win over qualifier Tatiana Prozorova to reach the US Open second round – where she faces Petra Kvitova.

“It feels amazing to be back,” she said after her victory on Louis Armstrong Stadium. “I was very nervous coming out here.
