Andy Roddick says anyone who calls Australian Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev a one slam wonder is an idiot.
Jannik Sinner beat Medvedev 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 last weekend to win his maiden grand slam title and set up a decade long rivalry with fellow emerging star Carlos Alcaraz.
It was Medvedev’s sixth appearance in a grand slam final, but he only has one trophy to his name — the 2021 US Open where he beat Novak Djokovic in the final.
The 27-year-old spent more than 24 hours on court at Melbourne Park, including several early morning finishes, setting a new record for the most playing time at a grand slam.
But Medvedev’s gut-wrenching five set loss saw him become the first player to lose two grand slam finals after leading two sets to love after Rafael Nadal also came back to beat him in the 2022 Australian Open final.
