St George Illawarra chief executive Ryan Webb has revealed the club is eyeing former Sharks premiership-winning coach Shane Flanagan as a potential candidate to fill the vacant role at the Dragons next year.
The Dragons sacked head coach Anthony Griffin last month, with Ryan Carr replacing him on an interim basis.
The club initially wanted to appoint rookie coach Jason Ryles, but the Roosters assistant knocked back the four-year offer to return to the Melbourne Storm.
On Saturday, Webb confirmed that Flanagan was on a short-list of coaches to take over the role, despite reported misgivings from influential board powerbroker Peter Doust.
