The Maroons have forced a decider in the historic three-game Women’s State of Origin against the Sky Blues after a heart-stopping 11-10 win in very wet conditions in front of a record-breaking crowd in Newcastle.
Despite the wet weather, 25,872 people packed into McDonald Jones Stadium, a new record for a Women’s State of Origin game. That eclipsed the mark set at Suncorp Stadium for Game I three weeks ago.
Queensland didn’t lead all game until Lauren Brown slotted a field goal from 25 metres out to edge the Maroons ahead with two minutes left on the clock.
The Sky Blues will feel disappointed they didn’t put the series to bed, as they had plenty of opportunities to add to the scoreboard throughout the night, but the Maroons defence hung tough.
