Commentators and fans were bamboozled when the NRL’s bunker gifted Newcastle a try at a critical time of the clash with Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.
The Knights held a slender 12-8 lead over the Broncos when in the 46th minute Kalyn Ponga put a grubber behind the defensive line for his backrower Lachlan Fitzgibbon to pounce on.
Fitzgibbon eventually collected and grounded the ball, but not before a calamity that involved his teammate Bradman Best and Brisbane winger Jamayne Isaako.
