First female referees, Belinda Sharpe and Kasey Badger, single referee system, two-referee system, news, appointments, schedule

The NRL has announced Belinda Sharpe and Kasey Badger will make history, becoming the first females to officiate under the single referee system.

Sharpe has previously been on field during the two-referee system and will officiate the Sea Eagles vs Tigers game at Brookvale Oval on Friday.

Meanwhile, Badger will referee the Titans vs Bulldogs clash at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday.

“I congratulate Belinda Sharpe and Kasey Badger for making history with these appointments,” NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo said in a statement.

“Kasey and Belinda are professionals and have shown dedication and discipline in their development. This is a historic moment for them and for the game.”

Both Sharpe and Badger have consistently featured as touch judges, running the line in 195 and 161 NRL games respectively.
