The fallout from the NBA refereeing blunder in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 121-125 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday (AEDT) continues, with both pundits and fans around the league calling for changes to the instant replay and coaches challenge rules.
When LeBron James drove to the basket with less than five seconds on the clock in regulation, and the scores level at 105 a piece, he was clearly fouled on his arm by Jason Tatum while he was releasing the ball causing his shot to miss.
Controversially the referees appeared to swallow their whistle as they failed to call the foul which resulted in an immediate uproar from both LeBron and the rest of the Lakers squad. This anger was only amplified by the fact that LA was unable to have the non-call reviewed or challenged and would eventually go on to lose the game 121-125 in overtime.
