A stunning presentation from Perth Wildcats coach John Rillie and General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills has been revealed as the key moment which lured potential NBA number one draft pick Alex Sarr to Western Australia.
Sarr has taken the basketball world by storm since arriving at the Wildcats under the NBL Next Stars program. The league spent more than 12 months attempting to sign the 216cm French teenager, knowing he had the potential to be an early pick in the 2024 NBA draft.
The Next Stars program involves the league convincing players to come to Australia and then it is up to the clubs to battle for their services. The Wildcats were first in the queue to speak to Sarr and impressed him so much that other clubs didn’t even get a meeting.
