Broadcaster Esther Krakue says new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss “has a bit of a buffer” for the coming months as the energy crisis will make the Conservative Party “fall in line”.
“They have to put their differences aside in terms of energy security,” she told Sky News host Rowan Dean.
Ms Krakue said while former prime minister Boris Johnson did add to the energy crisis, the blame lies with former Labour prime minister Tony Blair as he did not “make energy independent”.
“We’ve invested heavily in solar and wind, which is extremely inefficient, a lot of these companies producing … that type of energy has been given, sort of, a free ride for far too long,” she said.
“Energy independence and energy security – which is not only a national security but also a geopolitical issue – have been long put on the side and not prioritised.”
