[Alexei Popyrin, world No.40, has been selected to represent Australia in the 2023 Davis Cup Finals in Spain. He has been brought in to replace the injured Thanasi Kokkinakis. Captain Lleyton Hewitt explained that Kokkinakis twisted his ankle during a tournament in Sydney and had a setback in training. Popyrin joins the five-member team, which also includes Alex de Minaur, Max Purcell, Jordan Thompson, and Matt Ebden. Hewitt expressed confidence in Popyrin’s abilities, noting that he has had a career-best year. Popyrin will be representing his country in Spain this week.
