Naomi Osaka has moved to confirm what many suspected – her trophy ceremony ‘burn’ of Jennifer Brady was as innocent as it gets.
Moments after claiming her second Australian Open title, Osaka asked her opponent Jennifer Brady how she’d like to be addressed, to which she replied “Jenny”.
Osaka then looked back to the microphone, continuing: “OK. Firstly, I want to congratulate Jennifer.”

Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Osaka stressed the mix-up was unintentional.
“Omg no … I promise you my mind thought I called her Jenny in that moment and I was so confused why the crowd was laughing,” she wrote.
“I’m so sorry”.
