Gold Medallist Cathy Freeman has come out in support of the referendum as a part of the Yes23 campaign

Indigenous Olympic gold medallist Cathy Freeman has thrown her support behind the voice to parliament, saying “we have the chance to be part of a moment that brings people together”.

“I’m voting yes, and I am asking that all Australians do too,” she said in a video revealed on the Yes23 Twitter account on Thursday night.

She joins a number of other high-profile athletes who have pitched in their support for the ­referendum, including rugby league footballer Johnathan Thurston, former rugby league player and Australia coach Mal Meninga, AFL hero Nathan Buckley, international basketballer Andrew Gaze and netball international netballer Cath Cox.

The AFL, NRL, Rugby Australia, Football Australia, Netball Australia, Tennis Australia and Cricket Australia have all given their support, following a major event on National Sorry Day earlier this year where 20…
