Tasmanian tennis legend Richard Fromberg was lauded as being a tough competitor in a career which earned another special recognition on the weekend.
Ulverstone born and raised, Fromberg reached a career high world ranking of 24 in 1990 after he turned professional in 1988, and retired in 2005.
The 53-year-old reached 11 ATP Tour finals and won four titles after he developed a passion for the sport hitting balls against a brick wall as a youngster.
“I started playing tennis when I was nearly ten years old. We had a racquet lying around at home and I’d hit against a brick wall for hours and hours every day,” he said.
“I was watching on TV and decided that’s what I wanted to do.”
