Murray Bridge tennis star Alex Bolt has had to withdraw from the US Open after testing positive to COVID-19. Tennis Australia confirmed that Bolt, along with fellow Aussies Aleksandar Vukic and Jason Kubler, were out of the men’s singles qualifying competition due to their positive tests. According to OpenCourt, the trio had become infected during their training period in Orlando, Florida ahead of the qualifiers. It’s a hefty blow for the men; even if they lost their first qualifying match for the US Open, they would have received $US20,000 ($A27,000), while a win would have scored them $US32,000 ($A44,400). A second win would result in a $US42,000 ($A58,300) paycheck, and advancing through qualifying is worth $US75,000 ($A104,000).
