Naomi Osaka has staked her claim to the title of best player in women’s tennis, earning her second Australian Open crown after powering past Jennifer Brady in the women’s final on Saturday night, 6-4 6-3.
The Japanese star, who is now four-for-four in grand slam finals, looked nervous at times but never as much as the 22nd-seeded American who was in her first slam final.
The turning point of the match came in the opening set, with Brady threatening to break and serve for it at 30-40 and 4-4. However a bold Osaka forehand just found the line, and she went on to win the next six games of the match.
