Socceroos’ World Cup plans confirmed as Graham Arnold praises ‘mental’ Jason Cummings

The Socceroos’ 2-0 win over New Zealand on Sunday will be the last time the side plays before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, coach Graham Arnold has confirmed. 

A new-look team that featured six debutants started poorly at Eden Park before a much improved second-half saw the Socceroos claim consecutive victories over the All Whites. 

Australia, who qualified for the World Cup with a penalty shootout win over Peru, face reigning champions France in their first group game in Qatar on November 23 (AEDT). 

Despite that match being nearly two months away, Arnold confirmed the Socceroos won’t be able to fit in another game beforehand due to the tight fixture scheduling this year.

“There’s no chance. We’ve got seven days before we play France. When do we play? The players arrive on the Monday or the Tuesday and we play six days later,” Arnold said post-match when asked if his side…
