Soccer player punched out patron at Wollongong pub

A former Australian youth soccer international knocked out a patron at a popular Wollongong nightspot after breaking out into an alcohol-fuelled rage over a poor streak on the pokies.

John Mladen Martinoski, 30, of Warrawong, was sentenced in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday after previously pleading guilty to affray, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

Documents tendered in court state Martinoski was “indignant and yelling” at a poker machine he was playing at the Harp Hotel in Wollongong’s CBD about 10pm in April 1.

Two men were sitting at a machine nearby and one of them told Martinoski to stop yelling.

“What are you going to do about it?” Martinoski said, as the two men approached each other.
