Australia superstar Sam Kerr has finished third in the Ballon d’Or Feminin 2022 for the second consecutive year.
The Matildas striker was once again pipped by Barcelona’s Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas, who collected her second Ballon d’Or Feminin in a row.
Despite sitting out the last few months due to a knee injury, Putellas claimed the award once again, fighting back tears in her acceptance speech.
She admitted she didn’t think the Ballon d’Or would have been possible after missing out on the Euros with Spain.
After being beaten into second by Jennifer Hermoso in 2021, Kerr was pushed into third in 2022 by England and Arsenal striker Beth Mead.
Intriguingly, Kerr’s 20 Women’s Super League goals for Chelsea was nine more than the 11 Mead scored for Arsenal in the same league, but the English forward starred at the European Champonship as her nation…
