Western United have survived a late foray by Melbourne Victory to come home with an incredible 4-3 win at Marvel Stadium – despite being down to ten men.
Victor Sanchez’ 95th minute winner saw Victory’s incredible late comeback denied in a see-sawing affair.
After a cagey opening, a marauding Storm Roux put in a brilliantly weighted cross to Callum McManaman who volleyed the ball home to open the scoring.
Shortly after the opener, Western sprung into life as Iker Guarrotxena and Berisha’s headers were denied by the crossbar and Max Crocombe while Victory talisman Gestede also met the woodwork moments later.
However, Western’s push for an equaliser was soon rewarded as Berisha picked Jake Brimmer’s pocket before teeing up Sanchez who curled the ball home.
After the break, Western’s momentum continued and they took the lead…
