After falling shy of completing a first-ever ‘three-peat’, Sydney FC coach Steve Corica believes two key refereeing decisions “destroyed” their chances of taking home yet another Championship.
With the game delicately poised after a frantic start at 1-1, referee Chris Beath gave Luke Brattan a red-card for a late challenge on Marco Tilio which reduced the Sky Blues to ten men.
Moments after the former City midfielder was sent off, the home side was awarded a penalty after Adrian Luna was fouled by Anthony Caceres just inside the area.
Corica believes Brattan’s initial first yellow-card should never have been given while also saying Caceres’ challenge should never have been penalised.
