Essex seamer Sam Cook was left fuming after he clean-bowled Yorkshire’s Harry Duke on day four of their County Championship match in Chelmsford, only for the bails to deny him a crucial breakthrough.

Yorkshire was cruising at 6/433 when Cook got the ball to nip away from Duke off the deck, missing the right-hander’s outside edge.

The Duke ball clipped the top of off stump, ricocheting towards wicketkeeper Adam Rossington behind the stumps, who claimed a catch at his ankles.

Believing he had found the batter’s outside edge, Cook jogged through towards the slip cordon celebrating his dismissal – only for the eagle-eyed umpire to point out what had happened.
