Ryder Cup fears after Greg Norman coup, Henrik Stenson, Ernie Else

Ernie Els is the latest legend to publicly side against LIV Golf, but there are palpable fears about the future of the sport’s most prestigious team event, the Ryder Cup.

The four-time major-winner offered a blunt reality check for the Saudi-backed breakaway’s 54-hole format, as series chief Greg Norman campaigns for official world rankings points.

“Just because you are playing for $20 million-a-week doesn’t change anything,” Els said ahead of the Senior Open at Gleneagles, according to Golf Digest.

“It’s still 54 holes. There’s no basis to it, there’s no substance to it. You can’t have a 48-man tour playing no-cut golf and expect the world to take you seriously. It’s not going to happen.”
