Wallabies scrum-half Tate McDermott scooted over for a try on the brink of halftime in the second Bledisloe clash, ensuring Australia entered the sheds with wind in their sails despite being down 21-15.
The second half began about as well as Wallabies coach Dave Rennie could have hoped. Marika Koroibete retrieved the ball from an Australian kick-off. The Aussies marched to within five metres of the white stripe and earned a penalty – and an immediate yellow-card for dangerous All Blacks star Ardie Savea.
The Wallabies had all the momentum, and hardly two minutes had passed. Then it all fell apart in a horror 10-minute period where the game turned on its head and the Aussies were left reeling. The Wallabies would never recover, as the All Blacks claimed a 22nd-straight win at Eden Park and racked up 57 points, their highest-ever total against the Wallabies.
