As Rugby Australia tries to stem the tide of players heading overseas for riches, Michael Hooper believes sabbaticals could be an answer.
The Wallabies captain returned home late last month from a five-month sabbatical in Japan, where he played alongside former All Blacks captain Kieran Read at Toyota.
Hooper, 29, was granted permission to head overseas for one season after the Covid pandemic saw player wages slashed in 2020.

It continued a recent trend of Australians heading to the Land of Rising Sun for short-stints, with David Pocock and Bernard Foley two players who enjoyed stints in the Top League ahead of the 2019 World Cup.
