Henrik Stenson threw Europe’s Ryder Cup preparations into disarray on Thursday when it was confirmed he would be signing up for the rebel Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series.
The move saw him axed as Europe’s captain for the Ryder Cup to be played in Italy next year but the fallout from that decision is far from over.
Paul Lawrie has branded suggestions Thomas Bjorn could become the new captain as a “joke” given he is on the selection panel himself.

Lawrie was initially viewed as one of four candidates to replace Padraig Harrington along with Luke Donald, Robert Karlsson and Stenson, who was given the nod.
