Henrik Stenson has been swiftly condemned for turning his back on the Ryder Cup and DP World Tour — and slammed as money-hungry for joining LIV Golf.
The 2016 Open champion is, symbolically, LIV Golf’s biggest signing to date as his defection means losing the prestigious Ryder Cup captaincy for Europe.
Stenson issued a lengthy statement in which he said he wanted to retain his captaincy role and was “hugely disappointed” with his sacking.
But the statement has gone down like a lead balloon with many, considering Stenson will pocket a reported $A69 million just for signing on to play in the Saudi-funded league.
