North Melbourne legend David King has launched a staunch defence of polarising Magpie Jack Ginnivan as debate around the youngster’s ability to draw free kicks rages on.
Ginnivan was in the spotlight again in his team’s epic comeback win over North Melbourne on Saturday, receiving two free kicks for high contact but getting pinged for holding the ball in a separate play in the third quarter despite also appearing to be taken high.
It prompted Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd to say he believes AFL umpires are unsure on how to officiate Ginnivan, who’s gotten the most free kicks from high tackles of any player in the competition this year (17) ahead of Errol Gulden (13), Jason Horne-Francis, James Rowe, Joel Selwood and Matt Rowell (all 12).
