Ian Baker-Finch says Cameron Smith should create a legacy, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Open Championship, St Andrews, video, highlights

Ian Baker-Finch has implored Cameron Smith to reject advances to lure him across to Greg Norman’s LIV Golf Series and create a “legacy” on the PGA Tour.

Just minutes after becoming the first Australian since Norman to lift the Claret Jug since 1993, the focus of his dramatic victory at St Andrews switched after he was asked about his playing future.

A local reporter asked Smith whether he was considering joining the rebel league, with rumours linking him to the Saudi-backed league.

Smith’s response was far from convincing, as he instead turned the focus back on the reporter.

“I just won the British Open and you’re asking about that. I think that’s … not that good.”

Pressed further, Smith didn’t deny that his team is in discussions with LIV Golf.

“I don’t know, mate. My team around me worries about all that stuff. I’m here to win golf tournaments.”
