In another intriguing twist, Henrik Stenson could still play in next year’s Ryder Cup despite the Swede being stripped of the captaincy.
Stenson, 46, was stripped of the European captaincy last month after joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series on a $AU69 million joining fee.
By joining the rebel-league, Stenson joined fellow European teammates Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer and Paul Casey in the lucrative league.
Previously Stenson held the non-playing role as European captain, but his superb 11-under through the 54-hole event on debut in tournament has suddenly seen him come into calculation of playing in next year’s Ryder Cup in Rome.
