Anyone who has played golf at their local course has heard ‘FORE!’ bellowed in their direction, whether you’re standing on the neighbouring fairway, or being hit up on by the group behind you while looking for your ball in the rough. But rarely do you see it happening on the PGA Tour.
But for Roberto Castro on the back nine of the Congaree Golf Club last week, he was constantly in the danger zone for the little-known South African golfer behind him.
21-year-old Wilco Nienaber’s was making his tour debut at the Palmetto Championship and on the 486-yard, par-4 11th smashed his drive more than 340 yards.
“I played in front of this dude today,” Castro tweeted afterwards. “This drive rolled 15 yards. No wind. I saw it land, had to get my yardage book out to see how far it flew. 340. Shotlink confirmed.”
