Bryson DeChambeau declared his only chance to contend at the British Open was to drive the ball well.
He went on to hit just four of 14 fairways in the opening round, ending with a frustrating 1-over-par 72.
It appeared as if DeChambeau was bombing it into rough all day.
“That’s what I said a couple days ago — if I can hit it down the middle of the fairway, that’s great, but with the driver right now, the driver sucks,” DeChambeau said.
