Phil Mickelson has completed one of golf’s most unthinkable redemption stories, becoming the oldest winner in major history by clinching the PGA Championship on Monday (AEST) by two strokes.
The 50-year-old American survived a nervy final round of 73 to post six-under for the tournament, holding off South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, and a misfiring Brooks Koepka, at Kiawah Island
The win means Mickelson — ranked 115th in the world before the tournament — surpasses 1968 PGA Championship winner Julius Boros (48 years, four months) as the oldest player to win a major.
