Thomas had misfired terribly and suffered his worst-ever season on the PGA Tour.
As a result of his poor campaign, the 30-year-old also missed the cut for the FedEx Playoffs for the first time in his career.
Despite his dismal form, Johnson named Thomas in his Ryder Cup team as one of his six captain’s picks in the 12-man team alongside Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Rickie Fowler and Sam Burns.
However, Thomas’ impressive 6-2-1 record in the Ryder Cup was a primary reason behind his inclusion.
