It wasn’t even three weeks ago that Phil Mickelson walked off the course at the PGA Championship and offered a cryptic warning when asked about his online combativeness.
“I guess it’s because I know some things that others don’t,” he said.
“I don’t want to get into specific details … I know a lot of stuff that will come out later, and that I am appreciative that they’re being held accountable.”
Mickelson had been firing shots left, right and centre on Twitter for weeks, defending LIV Golf and attacking its detractors, including those staunchly defending the PGA Tour.
Then came an announcement this week that, despite nearly two years of bitterness and pending legal battles, the PGA Tour had decided to hop into bed with the very thing it was said to despise.
