Rory McIlroy was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with a fellow PGA Tour golfer while commissioner Jay Monahan has been accused of betrayal in the wake of the shock merger with the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf.
Publicly, McIlroy on Thursday [AEST] welcomed the PGA Tour’s merger with LIV Golf but said rebel players who joined the upstart circuit should not be granted an automatic return to the sport.
Northern Ireland star McIlroy, one of the staunchest critics of LIV Golf, said while he still seethed with “hatred” towards the upstart circuit, he believed Wednesday’s deal would secure the financial future of the sport.
Behind closed doors, however, McIlroy was reportedly at the centre of a fiery debate with Grayson Murray — the world No.227 — during the players’ meeting at the Canadian Open.
