50-year-old golf legend Phil Mickelson wound back the clock to surge into contention at the PGA Championship after a second round 69.

Despite recent form struggles – having not finished in the top 10 of any event this year, and his ranking blowing out to 115th in the world – the famous ‘Lefty’ moved into the lead at five-under overall with another impressive display.

Mickelson teed off early in the day, before South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen (68) matched him at five-under overall, and USA’s Brooks Koepka (71, four-under overall) responded to set up an enticing leaderboard ahead of moving day.
