Jason Day will prioritise being at the birth of his fourth child even it means he can’t play the tournaments needed to qualify for next month’s US Open after falling outside the ranking number for automatic entry.
The former world number one hasn’t missed a major championship since 2012 but hasn’t won since 2018 and has fallen to 62 in the world.
Only the world top 60 automatically qualify for the US Open at Torrey Pines, and Day has vowed to put in the work to climb those two ranking spots over the next three weeks
But with the birth of his fourth child imminent, Day conceded his immediate future may lie at home, and not on the golf course.
He ruled out entering Monday qualifying for the third major of the year, and instead vowed to fight his way back through tournaments starting with this week’s Byron Nelson, an event he won in 2010.
