Angel Cabrera, Masters champion, jailed, domestic violence, manhunt, Interpol, extradited to Argentina

Argentine golf champion Angel “Pato” Cabrera was sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting his former partner and stealing her mobile phone.

The 51 year-old golf star — who won the 2007 US Open and 2009 Masters — was found guilty of striking Cecilia Torres Mana, 37. The two were partners between 2016 and January 2019.

It comes six months after the Argentinian was captured in Brazil after fleeing from the allegations that he threatened to kill his former partner.

In January, Cabrera was caught and extradited to Argentina after he was reportedly labelled “code red” by Interpol as he fled an international arrest warrant in the US.

He was in the US for wrist surgery in October.

Police said in a statement that the arrest was made in an upper class area of Rio de Janeiro.
