golf, British Open, Paul Larsen, Royal St George’s, greenkeeper, Robert Smith, news,

Royal St George’s, the home of the 2021 Open Championship, is one of the wildest courses in golf. So it might come as no surprise that the man in charge of overseeing the legendary links is equally eccentric.

His name is Paul Larsen, and he’s quickly becoming golf’s newest rock star. Rock star is no coincidence – he looks mighty reminiscent of Robert Smith, lead singer of The Cure. He wears drainpipe trousers, Converse shoes (even to the trophy presentation after the 2011 Open Championship!), and his hair is recognisable from the other end of the brutal par-five seventh.

No wonder Larsen describes himself on social media as ‘the Robert Smith of the links’.
