Gibson tennis siblings go one-and-done in Sydney | Sports

Guam junior tennis players, siblings Dakota and Fremont “Monti” Gibson, lost both of their tennis matches at the JB2 Sydney Oceania Closed Junior Championships, which run from Aug. 10-14 in Sydney, Australia.

The unseeded Monti Gibson faced No. 2 seed Lucy Quinlan of Australia in the qualifying draw for the main tournament. She bounced back from an opening 6-1 first-set loss and won the second, 6-2. She lost 10-1 in the third.

“It’s been a lot of fun and it’s pretty cold over here but it’s exciting. I love representing Guam,” she said. “It’s kind of random; we’re like the only Guam players here. But it’s fun.”

Monti Gibson, along with fell Guam tennis players Sydney Packbier and Nadine Del Carmen, will head to Tajikistan for another juniors tournament, the J5 Dushanbe Open 2022. That tournament runs from Aug 15-20.
