Suspended Eagle could play first game in over 700 days as Simpson forecasts ‘list profile change’

West Coast Eagles coach Adam Simpson has revealed that suspended forward Willie Rioli is in the frame to play his first AFL game since 2019.

The 26-year old’s two-year doping ban will end on Friday, making him eligible to return in either the AFL or WAFL next weekend.

It comes as the Eagles will be fighting for their season against the Brisbane Lions after dropping out of the top eight following Sunday’s western derby loss to Fremantle – snapping an 11-game win streak over their crosstown rivals.

Simpson told reporters post-match that Rioli – who returned to training in mid-June – will be in the selection frame.

“He’ll be a conversation early in the week,” Simpson said.
