RBA lifts interest rates further; Liz Truss becomes UK Prime Minister; Rachelle Miller case settled; long COVID inquiry to be launched; Labor climate change bill in Senate

An upbeat Boris Johnson has spoken his final words as UK prime minister, praising his own record and declaring that his successor, Liz Truss, will see the country through the energy crisis, prevail over Russian leader Vladimir Putin and win the next election for the Conservatives.

The country’s 55th prime minister bid farewell early on Tuesday morning (London time) following an ousting by his party earlier this year.

Truss was elected by Tory members to replace him yesterday, albeit by the lowest margin of any Tory leader elected in a race.

With no hint of sadness or anger in his voice, he said his commitment to Ukraine had arguably changed the course of the war in Europe. He also praised his vaccine rollout and the civil servants who had delivered Brexit.
