Optus Stadium, start time, finals bye week, when, why, MCG contract, Brownlow Medal date

Optus Stadium will be officially unveiled as the host of the 2021 Grand Final this week, with a post-preliminary finals bye to enable a week of events in WA, reports the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.

The Victorian state government has agreed on a deal with the AFL and MCG and could announce the move at its daily Covid press conference on Tuesday.

The Perth venue has never hosted the Grand Final before, joining the Gabba, MCG, Princes Park, Junction Oval, Lake Oval, East Melbourne and Waverley Park as hosts of the V/AFL premiership decider.

The game is likely to start between 5:00pm and 5:30pm local time, meaning a first bounce between 7:00 and 7:30pm on the east coast, the second consecutive late start after 2020’s historic first night Grand Final. It will…
