Melbourne skipper Max Gawn has won praise for his brilliant tribute to young mascot Charlie, as the little boy soaked in the win over Carlton.

Gawn revealed seven-year-old Charlie’s tragic health update when speaking to Fox Footy post-match.

But nothing could stop the smile spreading across Charlie’s face when he was wheeled through the banner pre-game by Jack Viney, or when he joined the team huddle to sing the song post-match.

“He’s a beautiful little kid,” Gawn said.

“Unfortunately he has a brain tumour and he might not have too long left. But he was happy as Larry tonight.
