Grand Final date, getting rid of the pre-finals bye, plan, where will the Grand Final be played, finals hub, news

There is growing support within the AFL industry for the league to scrap the pre-finals bye this year in order for the season to be finished as quickly as possible.

With growing uncertainty surrounding the fixturing of the remaining six weekends of football, with New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland all enduring COVID lockdowns in the past month, playing right through to grand final day is becoming a more attractive option, according to AFL chief Gillon McLachlan.

“I think there’s support for the position. I wouldn’t say it’s all 100 per cent, or unanimous, but I genuinely feel people understand the logic and are supportive,” he said.
