Veteran AFL reporter Caroline Wilson says Carlton “spooked” Alastair Clarkson away from a potential move there in 2022, despite him initially being “tempted” to take on the challenge of a new club.
Clarkson on Wednesday indicated via his management he will take a year off in 2022 despite advances from Carlton and Collingwood.
Speaking on Footy Classified, Wilson said Carlton’s treatment of David Teague – who was sacked on Thursday – had turned the four-time Hawthorn premiership coach off.
“I think Carlton was the best chance of keeping Alastair Clarkson in the coaching game next year,” she explained.
“He was pretty tempted, I gather, but what has gone on at that football club … over the last week, I think, completely spooked the Clarkson camp and the Clarkson…
