Adelaide Crows coach Matthew Nicks punched in head by neo-nazis

Crows coach Matthew Nicks has for the first time spoken publicly about the traumatic moment he was the innocent victim of a coward punch.

The former Sydney Swans star has revealed he was one of several victims in the wrong place at the wrong time during a neo-Nazi rampage through Adelaide’s CBD.

In a segment to run on 7News on Monday night, the 48-year-old has opened up about the terrifying attack after accepting a position as an ambassador for the Sammy D foundation, a charitable organisation pushing for better education around drug and alcohol fuelled violence in young people.

As first reported by The Adelaide Advertiser, Nicks looks at the 1994 incident — which left him unconscious following a punch to the head — as a “life-altering moment”.
