Darwin Salties basketball team make the finals in their first year in competition

Since joining the NBL-1 North competition in April 2022, the Darwin Salties have been selling out their home games consistently.

Perhaps some credit can go to that home-crowd support, because the team just keep winning!

Most recently they took down the defending champions, the Mackay Meteors, by 30 points.

Salties Coach Matt Flinn told ABC’s Liz Trevaskis they established an ethos for the team early on.

“If you give everything you’ve got, and represent the Territory and the city well, people will support you.”

He says the team’s success is a positive boost for basketball in the NT.

“There hasn’t really been a linear pathway for kids in the territory to this point, the pathways stopped at 18 or 20 years old.”

And it’s not just the locals who are getting behind the Top End team.
