McMahon jumps from netball to cricket

Former Australia netball captain Sharelle McMahon has made a code switch, taking up a role as head of female cricket with Cricket Victoria.

McMahon, who has been working as an assistant coach with the Melbourne Vixens in the Super Netball competition and shooting specialist coach with Australia’s national team, will oversee all aspects of Victorian cricket’s female performance pathway.

The second most capped Diamonds player with 118 games, including two World Cup triumphs, McMahon said she was excited and somewhat nervous about making the move into cricket.

“I’ve always prided myself on new challenges and new learning and this is a fantastic opportunity to bring my knowledge of high performance and elite women’s sport to Cricket Victoria,” she said in a statement.
